Hello! We had a great time in Las Vegas last week, but we’re glad to be back in DC for a fun week ahead. August starts tomorrow, which is bittersweet for me. On the one hand, it’s our anniversary month and filled with fun events. On the other, it means summer is coming to an end and I’m a summer girl forever. I’ll definitely be making it a point to soak up every drop of the month ahead. Keep reading for our best bets for the week!
Filipino Food Comes to Arlington
The short-lived Applebees in Clarendon is no more, with Filipino restaurant Bistro 1521 taking its place. Named after Magellan’s discovery of the Philippines in 1521, the eatery will offer a variety of authentic Filipino dishes with a unique style of cooking evolving from a mixed cuisine of Spanish, Malay and Chinese influence. The new spot opens tonight, July 31st at 4 p.m. at 900 N. Glebe Road.
Lobster Bake Nights at Millie’s
In need of a vacation, but can’t find the time to get away? Join Millie’s on Wednesday nights in August for their new Lobster Bake Nights. The New England-inspired restaurant will offer a classic lobster bake complete with corn, potatoes, drawn butter, and a cup of chowder for $34 per person. It’s a trip to Maine on a plate.
Ten Tigers’ New Brunch
Ten Tigers Parlor in Petworth is a Jack-of-all-Trades offering delicious Chinese food at night, a Sri Lankan pop-up for breakfast and lunch during the week, arcade games downstairs and a beautiful back patio. Now they’re adding brunch to the repertoire. It kicks off this Sunday at 11 a.m. Expect festive drinks, dumplings and more.
Bolivian Independence Day Celebrations
Ruta del Vino, Hank’s Cocktail Bar and Compass Rose are celebrating Bolivia’s Independence Day with a jammed packed Sunday Funday on Sunday, August 6th. Start the day at Ruta del Vino for a Boozy Bolivian Brunch featuring Salteñas, Rujero singani cocktails, Bolivian wine spritzers and more from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. After brunch head right across the street to Hank’s Cocktail Bar to make flower crowns, starting at 4pm. Keep the party going by singing the night away with at Compass Rose for karaoke, laughs and more Bolivian booze.
