Happy Eclipse Day! We’re excited to go out this afternoon and stare at the sun. Luckily, my stepmom and sent us glasses months ago before they all sold out. (Thanks Denise!) The highlights of our weekend were celebrating our adorable niece’s 1st birthday on Saturday and getting dinner with friends we hadn’t seen in way too long. The week ahead promises to be action-packed with more get togethers with friends, some blog events and our wedding anniversary on Thursday, not to mention DC Beer Week. Read on below for our best bets for the week!
9th Annual DC Beer Week
Celebrate the 9th Annual DC Beer Week with beer specials, tap takeovers and events all week-long. Some highlights include:
- Flights and Dogs at City Tap House – August 22nd – 11 breweries will be serving up beer pairings for their own hot dogs recipes. Attendees will get to sample them all and vote for their favorites.
- Battle of the Barrel-Aged Beer at Boundary Stone – August 22nd – Five local breweries will compete against each other as they each try to wow the public and the judges with a special barrel-aged brew. This year’s lineup includes DC Brau, Atlas, 3 Stars, Port City and Right Proper.

Lincoln’s Bar-B-Que Solar Eclipse Shake
Even if you don’t have special glasses, you can still celebrate the eclipse at Lincoln’s Bar-B-Que in Silver Spring. Their special Solar Eclipse shake is served in a glass rimmed to resemble the solar sky with chocolate frosting, chocolate sprinkles and M&Ms topped with cloud-like whipped cream and an ice cream moon-ish sandwich rolled in yellow sugar sprinkles to replicate the sun’s corona.
Game of Thrones Comedy Show
Game of Thrones has taken a bit of a back seat at our house due to our obsession with David Lynch’s Twin Peaks revival (anyone else watching?), but there’s no denying it’s been an action-packed season so far. Petworth Citizen’s Reading Room is celebrating the upcoming season finale on Sunday, August 27th with a special Game of Thrones comedy show. Things kick off at 5:30 p.m. with Game of Thrones-themed stand-up, hilarious sketches, and a special punch for the event. The show will last around 60 to 75 minutes so you have time to go home and prepare for the Game of Thrones finale. Reserve tickets fast to secure a seat because this event will sell out. Seating is first come, first serve.
City Perch Endless Summer Celebration
Indulge in the last taste of summer with a four-course Endless Summer Celebration at City Perch Kitchen + Bar featuring paired Piper-Heidsieck champagnes. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23rd. Menu highlights include Farmer’s Market “Greens” with heirloom tomatoes; Tuna & Watermelon Crudo and Snake River Farms Wagyu.
