Happy Monday yet again! Last week flew by in a blur of busy days, a dreadful migraine and as always, a little fun. We spent Saturday in wine country for Tom’s summer work event and had a wonderful day with family yesterday. Now I’m hoping for a calm, productive week ahead.
Bantam King Walk Up Window Debuts
You guys know Bantam King is one of our favorite ramen spots in DC, but now there are even more reasons to love the quirky Chinatown restaurant. Starting today, Monday, June 19th at 11:30 a.m., Bantam King will debut its new “Walk Up Window” menu featuring an eclectic assortment of sweet and savory bites and beverages, including several frosty treats just in time to welcome summer in the district. You can expect a variety of sweets including mochi ice cream, J-Pop Japanese soda floats and a fried chicken skin ice cream sandwich (yes, you read that correctly). Savory offerings include a Nanban fried chicken sandwich featuring a Dashi-brined Fried Chicken Breast, Japanese Tartar Sauce, and Shredded Cabbage, served on a Sesame Martin’s Roll and nori french fries. The “Walk Up Window” menu is available Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Giant BBQ Battle
The Giant BBQ Battle is back for another delicious weekend. The Giant BBQ Battle is one of the largest food and music festivals in the country and offers attendees a chance to experience the thrill of competition barbecue at its best.
The event will be held on DC’s Historic Pennsylvania Avenue this weekend, June 24th and 25th. Tickets start at $12 for a single day ticket, or you can get a two-day pass for $20. For more information, read our coverage of last year’s Giant BBQ Battle.
Keuka Springs Winemakers Dinner
Wardman Wines is joining Maketto Restaurant and Georgian Wine House in hosting a Winemaker’s Dinner on Thursday, June 22nd, with August Deimel of Keuka Spring Vineyards. Erik Bruner-Yang and the chef team at Maketto have created a four-course wine dinner, complete with dessert to complement the wines. The dinner will be served in a communal style, and seats ($90 per person before tax and tip) are extremely limited. Reserve your seat here.
Lambrusco Days at Dino’s Grotto
We are big fans of Lambrusco wine, but many still don’t know much about this versatile and refreshing varietal. Dino’s Grotto is doing its part to educate wine drinkers by taking part in International Lambrusco Days from June 15th through 22nd. The Shaw restaurant will offer a Lambrusco Tasting flight including five wines and five bites of food to accompany for $25. The selection of the wines on the flight will change nightly but will be picked to show off the many styles, grapes, and regions that make up Lambrusco. In addition, on World Lambrusco Day, June 21, Dino’s will host a Festa di Lambrusco in the Grotto Bar. You can sample any of the 10 different Lambrusco open that night while enjoying complimentary – and complementary – small bites designed to accompany Lambrusco for $35.
