I have no Week in Review ready for today. It’s been a hectic lately.
We have our tickets to Brazil booked, and we leave in thirty days. That seems like plenty of time when you see it in writing, but in reality we have way more to do to get ready to depart than I can even sort out in my brain.
But that’s all part of the fun!
We did get quite a bit accomplished this week. The top two priorities to start were making sure we could get Ashton there without any complications (many thanks to Atlas Vet for helping us get started with this!) and starting to get rid of as much of our crap as possible.
We’re really looking at this as an opportunity to majorly downsize. With as often as we move, we really need about a tenth of the stuff that we have insisted on holding onto over the years.
We plan to get rid of almost all of our furniture before we go, only storing a few of our nicer pieces and our mattress, which I have a feeling I’ll miss sorely while we’re gone. (As much as I love to travel, I almost never sleep well unless I’m in my own bed.)
We’ve already cleared out and donated a large collection of things we no longer need. I love a good purge. I feel lighter already.
An added bonus is that when we get back and need to find a new apartment in DC, we’ll have less stuff to move and won’t need as large of a place – a big win for our bank accounts.
Other than that, we’ve also started studying Portuguese (using Babbel) and daydreaming about all the trips we’ll take to other parts of Brazil and South America. Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru – how do we decide?!
I still have yet to fully wrap my head around how I feel about everything – about being so far away from family and friends, what I’ll miss most or what I’m most excited about.
But I do know this is exactly the kind of thing I’ve always dreamed about doing, and no matter what happens it will be a grand adventure.
I hope to be back to regularly scheduled programming soon!
