Hey guys! I’m coming down from a really great weekend. It was perfectly laid-back, the weather was (mostly) divine and the food and drink delicious. We spent Saturday at the Fauquier County Wine Tasting & Competition at the Airlie Hotel in Warrenton, Virginia. The grounds there are beautiful, the perfect setting for a day of wine tasting.
On Sunday we had a coffee and kolache date with The Hungry Travelist and her husband before knocking out our grocery shopping, meal prepping, a workout and maybe an adult beverage or two. It was just a wonderful weekend, and the fun will keep going in the days ahead if I have anything to do with it. Here are a few things to get into around town this week.
Celebrate Mardi Gras at Service Bar DC
Couldn’t make it to NOLA for Mardi Gras? Service Bar is offering the next best thing. According to Washington City Paper, the cocktail bar will transform into all things Mardi Gras on Fat Tuesday (February 28th). They’ll serve up New Orleans style food and drinks, and if you miss out on Tuesday don’t worry – the theme will run through the end of April.
Barboursville Wine Dinner at Blackwall Hitch
If you’re looking for a slightly lower key Fat Tuesday, head to the Alexandria waterfront for a wine dinner at Blackwall Hitch, featuring Barboursville Vineyards. The Chef’s Table wine dinner includes four wine-paired courses, seasonally inspired with local ingredients, for $75. If you can’t make it, don’t despair as the Chef’s Table series will continue in the coming months.
Om at the Kennedy Center
Yoga is my favorite way to de-stress, and it’s become even more necessary in recent months. However, keeping up a regular studio practice can be hard on the wallet. I regularly turn to Yoga with Adriene to get my zen fix at home, but free classes are easy to find around the city if you know where to look. The Kennedy Center is stepping up with perhaps the most stylish option for a free practice. The first class is this Saturday, March 4th at 10:15 a.m. in the Grand Foyer. Classes will continue on Saturdays until August 19th.
My dear friend Lauren is back from her epic trip to Southeast Asia and is back to blogging as well. Be sure to check out her site, This Delicious Life, for travel stories and wanderlust inspiration, as well as a delicious look at some of her favorite restaurants in Annapolis.
I had the pleasure of meeting Tara, the woman behind Lace and Grace, at a media event last week and I’m already obsessed with her blog for its stunning photos, delicious recipes and travel tips.
