Hey everyone! Happy first day of Spring. I think we’re all a little wary about the weather lately, but hopefully less chaotic times are ahead. Sadly, it’s going to be a rough year for the cherry blossoms, but some blooms are better than none. We spent the last weekend of winter out in beautiful Virginia working at Maggie Malick’s Wine Caves on Saturday, indulging in an incredible employee wine dinner that evening and then spending time with my brother and sister-in-law and our adorable niece at Barrel Oak Winery on Sunday. It was fabulous and exhausting, but now I’m ready for a productive week ahead.
Cherries Jubilee Cocktail Class at Via Umbria
Celebrate the spirit of the Cherry Blossom Festival at Via Umbria Wednesday, March 22nd at 7:30 p.m. They’ll be hosting a Cherries Jubilee cocktail class taught by guest mixologist Matt Demma from True Syrups. He will demonstrate four cherry-inspired cocktails and participants will get the chance to mix their own perfect drink. Pre-purchased tickets ($25 per person) are required.
New Happy Hour + Patio at Ten Tigers Parlour
Ten Tigers is launching a new $3 happy hour, meaning $3 Sapporo, cocktails and wine. They’re also debuting their new patio on Wednesday, March 22nd complete with a fireplace and heat lamps and a new boozy boba tea menu. We stopped in once shortly after moving and really enjoyed the food and can’t wait to hang out on the new patio. Hopefully I’ll be able to file a full review within the next month.
Fast Casual Updates
I’m still in mourning over the loss of Shophouse. News came out today that Bibibop Asian Grill will replace all the DC Shophouse locations. I’m willing to give it a shot, but my heart will forever be with the Shophouse tofu bowl with green curry and all the toppings. RIP. Also on the fast casual front, Cava Grill unveiled their new Spring menu today. It looks delicious! And last but not least, the Navy Yard Shake Shack location opens this Thursday, March 23rd at 11 a.m. I’m both sad and relieved that I no longer live within a block of the new space.
If last week’s snowstorm wasn’t enough for you, live vicariously through In a DC Minute and their beautiful photos of Winter Storm Stella in Medina, New York.
I just now jumped on the buddha bowl (or power bowl, or whatever you want to call it) train, and I’m never getting off. We tried a version last week from FitLiving Eats (with farro instead of quinoa) and loved the mix of textures and the sweet and spicy toppings.
