Hey y’all! I hope you enjoyed the (hopefully) long weekend. We spent most of it moving, and are in love with our new digs and neighborhood already. We are slowly getting everything unpacked and in its proper place, while still taking time to get out and explore the area. My favorite thing so far is that our apartment faces west, and the sunsets in Petworth are fantastic. This photo was actually taken from the building’s patio area, where I imagine we’ll be spending lots of time – especially considering the gorgeous weather we’ve had lately.
The Spring-like temps are looking to continue through the week, so get out there and have some fun!
Fauquier County Wine Tasting and Competition
This Saturday, February 25 is the 3rd Annual Fauquier County Wine Tasting and Competition at Airlie Hotel in Warrenton, Virginia. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste and purchase local wines presented by 15 of Virginia’s Piedmont region’s best wineries as well as the opportunity to sample, judge and vote for their favorites in the “Taster’s Choice” competition. Hors d’oeuvres prepared by Airlie will be paired with each wine. Tickets ($35) are available online and will not be sold at the door.
30th Annual Chocolates Galore & More
Also in Virginia, chocoholics should head to the 30th Annual Chocolates Galore & More this Friday, February 24th at the Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Lansdowne, VA. Event attendees will indulge in chocolates, desserts and hors d’oeuvres prepared by the area’s finest restaurants and caterers and showcased in competition for Best Presentation and Best Taste. There will also be a silent auction, free-flowing champagne, music, dancing, and more – all in support of the YMCA’s Caring for Community Grant Program, which assists under privileged youth in attending after school and summer programming. Tickets are $50.
If you’d rather stay in the district, check out Ice Yards in Navy Yard on Saturday. While the weather lately has been far from icy, winter-lovers can get their fix with interactive ice activities, a boozy snow cone bar, igloo pods and more. Additionally, there will be live music and DC’s largest group shotski attempt among other festive activities. Tickets to the event are $10 and include a drink upon entry. Must be 21 to enter. Bring cash, as not all vendors will accept credit card.
*UPDATE* Due to expected rain, Ice Yards has been moved to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Shake Shack has new BBQ-inspired menu items and Aparna at The Hungry Travelist has all the drool-worthy details.
While I am always trying to grow this site and learn the ins and outs of blogging, I’m constantly reminded there’s so much I don’t know. Forever Amber wrote a thought-provoking post about blogger ethics that I think every person who writes on the Internet should read.
Have a great short week, folks!
