I love when friends come to visit me in DC. Mostly because I love them, but also because it’s a great excuse to get out and see the sights. I don’t take as much advantage of the beauty of this city as I should. Case in point: I’d never been to the National Mall at night.
My friend Andrea was in town last week for work and we remedied that. Visiting the DC monuments at night gives you an entirely different perspective of these iconic sights, the lights and shadows showing their softer, more intimate side. Another plus is that there are relatively no crowds at night, so you don’t have to dodge nearly as many selfie sticks to get great photos. The area is still safe after dark, though you should remain cautious as always.
Here are some of my favorite shots of the night.
Have you been to the National Mall at night? What’s your favorite monument?
